The Photography Foundation Grant 2024

Thank you for registering your interest in the Photography Foundation Grant 2024, which we are delighted to be taking applications for. This grant is sponsored by LIMI London charity in partnership with The Photography Foundation. You will find all the submission details below and please take your time to read the application criteria carefully as incorrectly submitted applications will not be considered. For 2024 we will be awarding one grant worth £2,500.

We are also pleased to confirm that the successful grant applicant will have their final project printed and exhibited (in partnership with Rapid Eye and the Photo Book Cafe), have their work showcased on the Grant partners websites & social media channels and we will be working with strategic partners to publish the completed photographic essay. Additionally, the grant winner will be allocated an evening event with The Photography Foundation to give a talk about their completed project.

ELIGIBILITY:

- Applications for the Grant are free and is open to professional, semi-professional or amateur photographers from any age range and background.

- The Grant is a UK based grant and as such must have a UK focus.

- We will consider applications for new projects or the completion of ongoing projects only. Support for ongoing projects that cannot be completed within the 12 months will not be considered.

- This grant is up to 12 months social documentary or environmental photography grant for the production of a photographic essay. Your project must take between 1 to 12 months to complete.

- Your project should be focused on tackling a single or mix of social or environmental issues in the UK. Please use your project statement to fully detail the cause/issue that the project is focused on. We take a broad view on the definition of 'social or environmental issue' and welcome applications from a wide range of potential projects.

- The grant can be used towards any combination of travel, equipment and living expenses while completing the project. Please use your project statement to demonstrate how the grant money will be used.


DEADLINE:

- All submissions are to be made by 12noon 31st July 2024.


HOW TO APPLY & PROJECT STATEMENT:

- All submissions are to be made online, use this link to access the submission page. All applications must follow the submission criteria and format detailed below:

1) Your submission must include full your name, email address and links to your online portfolio and social media accounts.

2) You will be required to submit a 'Project Statement' document, which must include the following:

  • Description of your proposed project and the social issue it tackles

  • Explanation and breakdown of how the grant money will be used

  • Expected timescales of your project

  • What you plan to do with your project on completion

  • The Project Statement must be uploaded as a PDF document. The PDF should be no longer that 2 pages in length. This is important, failure to submit a satisfactory project statement will result in your application being rejected.

3) You will have the opportunity to submit links to your website, social media accounts and/or an online gallery to support your application. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this to help support your application by showcasing your previous work or a portfolio related to your project.

4) The Project Statement is the single most important document which we use to assess your grant application. Please take your time to refine your Project Statement so that it is clear what your project is about and that it includes the items listed in point 2) above.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

- The number of grants awarded may be subject to change based on the number and quality of applications received. 

- The successful grant applicant will be required to deliver a photographic essay tackling the social issue highlighted in their proposal.

- The successful grant applicant will be expected to deliver a talk or workshop with The Photography Foundation soon after the project is completed as a condition to receiving the grant.

- There will be a requirement to deliver a progress report half way through the project, which will include a minimum of 8 images and a short report to detail the progress and status of the project.

- The grant is for a maximum period of 12 months, however, we do not require you to use all 12 months if it can be completed within a shorter timescale.

- Each grant receiver will have their profile/bio and portrait included on The Photography Foundation and LIMI London websites, and social media accounts. 

- The format of the exhibition and printed project is subject to approval from our partners Rapid Eye and Photobook Cafe.
